I've always believed it is good to be minimalistic with add-ons so when changes break them they don't wreak havoc with my game time with WoW. I cannot suggest alternative UIs because I prefer the default. That's what I did before Curse and it's what I'll do after Curse I guess.

It isn't hard to install an add-on manually. It's a little utility that's nice but certainly not worth a subscription to make it work a little faster.įor me there is no way I'd reboot to Windows to play WoW when I can play in OS X just for an automated add-ons installer. I never considered that worthwhile myself. I suspect the real reason they are dropping support (the spin on the site is bs) is simply that not many Mac users were buying into Curse and paying for premium service. I will miss the client's convenience when it comes to that but in my case I only use a few add-ons so it wouldn't be a big deal updating them after patches, etc.

I just used it to update my add-ons.įortunately if it becomes obsolete altogether at some point there is always the option to manually download and install updates. But it has nothing to do with being a Mac.It is sad they are stopping further development on the Mac Curse Client and moving the version 4 client to unsupported status but they do still make it available for download and I can verify that it works fine. If you don't extract the sub-folders, DBM won't work. But we Mac users have to do the same thing manually.

The Curse Client program does this automatically for PC users. ( All the folders: DBM-Brawlers, DBM-Core, DBM-DefaultSkin, DBM-DMF, etcetera, all need to be extracted from the "DBM-Core-5" folder, and dropped into the Addons folder.)
Remove all 15 of these folders and drop them directly into your "Addons" folder. When you open the downloaded "DBM-Core-5" folder, inside are 15 sub-folders.
(If there are files programs in the main file, just drop the main file right into your add ons folder.) If there are two or more files in the main file, and no programs (just files), these need to be removed from the main file, and dropped individually into your Addons folder. To install most add-ons, just decompress the add-on's. On Macs, add-ons need to be installed in /Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns (unless you've put your WoW folder somewhere other than /Applications, in which case /Interface/AddOns).

I don't think the Curse client for Mac has been updated in years now (I've never tried it), but all the add-ons can be installed and used without using the client. The standard WoW add-on sites (wow-interface, curse) work fine. I haven't had problems with using any of the regular WoW add-ons I've downloaded on my Mac.
